Tiny Eden Demo Guide
Officially 2–3 hours of story quests; demo playthroughs keep farming, trading and the lab going much longer.
Facts last checked: August 28, 2026 · full re-check at launch on September 7, 2026
Pre-release coverage: everything below comes from official store pages, developer announcements and demo hands-on. We re-verify every fact at launch on September 7, 2026.
What's in the Demo
Yes — Tiny Eden has a free demo, downloadable from the official Steam page (checked Aug 28, 2026). The current build went live on July 8, 2026 and replaces the earlier playtest with significantly more content. Per the official announcement it includes:
- More plant varieties than the previous playtest — more to grow, care for and harvest;
- 2–3 hours of story-driven quests introducing the world, characters and progression;
- The open trading post in the Atrium — trade with the wider city;
- New crafting recipes and new skills / progression options.
History note: the first demo dates back to December 23, 2024, when the project was still called City Garden Harvest; a separate playtest also remains open for sign-up on the Steam page (checked Aug 28, 2026).
Length, Languages & Steam Deck
- Length (official): 2–3 hours of story-driven quests, plus open-ended gardening (demo announcement, July 8, 2026).
- Length (demo playthroughs): the story pitch is not a stop screen. One July 9, 2026 session ran about 8 hours — lab open, first tomatoes and cauliflower harvested, drone still unused (auto captions). Steam reviews (leads only, checked Aug 29, 2026) mention 10 hours plus; one Simplified-Chinese review reported a level cap around 20 hours with all three rooms open.
- Languages: the demo store lists 7 languages — English, Russian, French, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and Belarusian. Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Polish are full-game only (Steam listings, checked Aug 28, 2026). Player reviews say picking Spanish, Russian or Chinese can still leave quests in English — treat the 7-language list as a store checkbox, not a full localisation pass.
- Steam Deck: the developers state the demo is not officially Deck-optimised — it may run, but no optimisations were made (official demo announcement, July 8, 2026). Their FAQ expects the full game to work on Deck (May 2026); we will test at launch.
- Reviews so far: the demo sits at "Very Positive" — 83 reviews, 91% positive (76 of 83; Steam, checked Aug 29, 2026).
- PC requirements: use the full-game sheet (16 GB RAM, GTX 1050 Ti / RX 570 minimum). The demo store page still shows the older 4 GB / RTX 2070 / 2 GB block, including a "WIndows 10" typo — that block is stale and is not the launch spec (checked Aug 28, 2026).
What Demo Playthroughs Actually Reach
Opening beats match across three July 2026 creators and one long session: you are Joy, moving into Holly's apartment, watering balcony strawberries to 90%, buying $5 shears, selling the first berries (+$10), adopting Bimbus from the roof, delivering 8 strawberries in the Atrium, unlocking Vitamin Salad ($20), mixing pak choi soil (6 compost + 4 sand) and opening room 2 for $50. Starting cash is $100. Details: opening walkthrough.
The rest of a long run is money, climate and skill walls, not a credits roll. From demo playthroughs of the July 2026 build (including Azyh's July 9, 2026 7h44m session — English auto captions only):
| Thing in the demo | Playthrough reading | How sure |
|---|---|---|
| Tiny Market stall | $50 licence / Atrium shop; stock at least 3 items | Multiple sessions; $50 from the long captioned run |
| Room 3 | $1,000 | Same long session + earlier footage |
| Drone | $150 in the shop and skill “Drone Activity: Watering” on the I panel. Hub exists from the start. The 7h44m run never got it working | Price on-screen in earlier footage; skill wall in captions + Steam reviews |
| Lab | Needs DIY dishes (caramelized onion + bean stir fry) and Nyx's cornflower delivery. Onions that run too hot block the hand-in until a heater is placed | Demo playthroughs |
| Heaters | $35 cold-snap heater in earlier footage; $25 “space heater” quoted in the long session. May be two items | Demo playthroughs — not an official SKU list |
| Floor coins | $5 each | Long session auto captions only |
| Strawberry stack / soil | 24 per slot; mix quoted as 100% compost | Long session auto captions only |
| Shop recipes | Cookbook entries can be bought, not only quest-unlocked | Long session |
| Keys | Tab = tablet (shop, mail, accept orders here); I = skills; Q = tools; Alt = plant status; O is not orders | Demo playthroughs |
Soft cap from player reviews (leads only): three rooms, shop bought out, experience stuck at level 7, trading orders can freeze. Not an official limit.
Demo Tips
From full playthroughs of the current build (July–August 2026), including the long July 9 session:
- The demo is bigger than its 2–3 hour pitch. Beyond the story quests there are reputation levels, your own shop to open in the Atrium ("Tiny Market"), a laboratory project and a $150 drone to save for — creators have filled multiple sessions without hitting the wall.
- Keep an emergency fund. Overnight cold or heat can stall plants. Demo playthroughs paid $35 for a cold-snap heater and quoted $25 for a space heater (auto captions; may be a different item). Spending your last dollar on seeds is the one way footage shows a run nearly failing.
- Do not over-water. The long session killed pak choi, beans and cornflowers by filling past the green zone. Moisture is easy to miss unless you are actively watering.
- Accept the tablet order before you cook. A finished dish with no accepted order could not be turned in.
- Cook in batches, sell dishes not crops. The stove runs several dishes at once, and cooked meals out-earn raw produce by an order of magnitude ($20 salad orders vs ~$1 strawberries).
- Beans and peas are different crops. The lab-project recipes ask for beans — one creator farmed peas for days before noticing. Read seed packets before buying.
- Skip old videos when researching. Anything titled City Garden Harvest (Dec 2024–2025) shows the outdated build — the July 2026 demo replaced it with story quests, the Atrium and skills.
